Former Filipino Miss Universe To Steve Harvey: Pay $1,000 Each For Humiliating Philippines And Colombia!

Steve Harvey seems to be public enemy number one lately, and on his tail as well is 1969 Miss Universe winner Gloria Diaz — the first Filipina to ever bring home the Miss Universe crown. After wrongly announcing Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutierrez, as Miss Universe 2015, Harvey followed through with an apology after correcting himself and crowning Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach as the true winner.

The mix up will forever go down in Miss Universe history, considering Miss Colombia’s crown slipped through her fingers, and both her moment and Wurtzbach’s were taken away from them due to the occurred error. For his grave mistake, Diaz has said of Harvey, “He should pay a fine of $100,000 to Miss Colombia and to the Miss Universe.”

Meanwhile, Margie Moran — 1973 Miss Universe winner and second Miss Philippines to take home the title — said she “felt sorry for both candidates” whilst adding that Wurtzbach was the rightful winner for her performance during the question and answer portion of the competition.

“She answered very well,” said Moran in an interview with local Philippine news program TV Patrol. “She’s very confident.”

Of Wurtzbach’s victory, Diaz commented it was “amazing” as it ended a title drought of 42 years for the Philippines, the country having last won the crown in 1973 with Moran. “42 years, that’s a long time,” Diaz stated. “It’s amazing.”

Diaz went on to remark on Wurtzbach’s answers during the question and answer portion, saying Wurtzbach’s first answer was not a problem. The 2015 Miss Philippines, when asked on her stand on the reestablishment of U.S. military bases in the country, cited the long history between the Philippines and the U.S., as well as how the Philippines is “very welcoming to the Americans.”

“The first answer for me was easy, playing to the Americans,” she said. “That’s fine, of course I love America. Take me with you.” Of Wurtzbach’s answer to the final question, Diaz said it was “really very inspiring.”

“Why should you be the next Miss Universe?” questioned Harvey during the Miss Universe finals.

“To be a Miss Universe is both an honor and a responsibility,” Wurtzbach began. “If I were to be Miss Universe, I will use my voice to influence the youth, and I would raise awareness to certain causes like HIV-awareness that is timely and relevant to my country, which is the Philippines.”

“I want to show the world — the universe, rather — that I am confidently beautiful… with a heart.”
