Heartless Chinese Mom Beat Son With Skipping Rope

On November 20, a mother in China was sentenced to 6 months in jail for intentionally injuring her 9-year-old adopted son.

Photos of the boy surfaced earlier this year, showing several painful, red-welts criss-crossing all over his back and legs, implying severe whipping.

“At the age of 6, the boy was legally adopted by his foster parents in Nanjing,” wrote the social media user who originally posted the photos of the boy. “The abusive conduct was found out by the boy’s teachers last year, but at the time the teachers thought it might have been an accident, so it didn’t get publicized.”

The young boy’s adoptive mother and biological aunt, whose surname is Li, has now confessed to battering her adopted son with a back scratcher and skipping rope simply because he “didn’t finish his homework and told lies.”

It seems like quite an extreme — not to mention painful — punishment for not being able to finish one’s homework with a lie or two here and there, especially at such a young age.

In a statement at the trial, Li has attested she is not a bad mother and was only punishing her son for lying.

According to CCTV News, however, the prosecutors rejected Li’s not-guilty appeal, claiming that, no matter how much she cared and loved her son, Li had still intentionally caused him harm and should thus take responsibility for her deeds.

As of present, there have been no known statements released by the boy’s foster parents. It is undisclosed as to who his current guardian is now, following Li’s court hearing over the child abuse she conducted.

Do you think such a punishment is deemed acceptable, or did Li deserve the jail sentence?
