Joann Sfar, a cartoonist for Charlie Hebdo, surprised everyone with his response to the trending “Pray for Paris” phrase that is being shared on social media of all forms after the tragic terrorist attacks that have just occurred in Paris, of which ISIS is believed to be responsible for.

In a cartoon that he drew, Sfar wrote, “thank you for #prayforparis but we don’t need more religion! Our faith goes to music! Kisses! Life! Champagne and Joy! #parisisaboutlife”.

The Paris office that Sfar works for, Charlie Hebdo, was the site of another horrible terrorist attack earlier this year. Targeted by Muslim extremists after the satirical magazine had published a drawn depiction of the prophet Muhammed, 17 people were killed by gunmen.

Now, after the tragic Paris attacks that have so far taken the lives of at least 129 victims, with hundreds more injured, the world reels in shock and horror and have united across the globe to stand in support with Paris.

One means of showing such support is through the use of social media. The aforementioned hashtag, #prayforparis, is being circulated along with a filter on Facebook that changes a user’s profile photo to the colors of the French flag in a symbol of solidarity.

In addition to the out-pour of support from people across the globe through social media platforms, world leaders have all been quick to both condemn the actions of ISIS and show their support for the people of France in the wake of the Paris attacks, with many countries also changing the lights of their national monuments and landmarks to reflect the flag of France as well.

The president of France himself, Francois Hollande, called upon France to remain united saying that “We will lead the fight. We will be merciless.”

During a statement issued by US President Barack Obama in which he refers to the nation of France as America’s oldest ally and friend, he said “This is an attack not just on Paris, it’s an attack not just on the people of France, but this is an attack on all of humanity and the universal values that we share.”

In his own statement, Germany’s Interior Minister Thomas des Maiziere has been quick to offer France aid in the form of its special anti-terror unit. German Chancellor Angela Merkel says she is “deeply shaken by the news… reaching us from Paris,” and that her thoughts are with the victims of this terrorist attack.

The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, has expressed his sentiments on Twitter, saying, “Prayers with families of the deceased. We are united with people of France in this tragic hour.

The Vatican has condemned the terror attacks “in the most radical way,” and Reverend Federico Lombardi said in a statement that this violent event was “an attack on peace for all humanity.”

Prior to the Paris attacks, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani had arranged to travel to France and Italy. He has since canceled the trips. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman was quoted as saying “Those terrorist groups that committed the Paris crimes do not believe in ethical principles and they are not loyal to any type of divine religions — including Islam.”

Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah of Kuwait has offered his condolences and stressed that these acts of terrorism “run counter to all teachings of holy faith and humanitarian values.”

British Prime Minister David Cameron is also “shocked” by the violent Paris attacks, and has offered to do “whatever we can to help.”

Chinese President Xi Jinping has also been quick to pledge his help to France, while simultaneously condemning the attacks.

Canada, too, “stands with France” as their own prime minister, Justin Trudeau, expresses his shock and sadness upon learning that “so many people have been killed and injured in violent attacks in #Paris.”
