‘Captain America: Civil War’ Chris Evans To Play Captain America In Iron Man 4?

Considering how jam-packed Captain America: Civil War is with several other superheroes and big names joining the cast, it’s easy to understand how some people may not see the upcoming film as a Captain America movie. Even Robert Downey Jr., who reprises his role as Tony Stark (a.k.a. Iron Man), was a little lost as well.

Both Downey Jr. and Chris Evans, who plays Captain America/Steve Rogers, have worked in films pertaining to the Avengers universe. However, instead of the film being ensemble-centric, Downey Jr. was reminded that film was still predominantly arranged to follow Steve Rogers’ perspective and not Tony Stark’s.

When asked if he in turn would guest in Iron Man 4 — should it see the light of day — Evans responded, “I’d be happy to be in an Iron Man movie. We’ve been in so many movies together, the titles are almost — at this point — inconsequential. We all win!”

“It just hit me yesterday, now that we’re six weeks in, that they were actually over his shoulder coming out of the elevator, not over my shoulder watching him come out of the elevator,” he shared to Entertainment Weekly during their visit to the Captain America: Civil War set, talking about the camera focus on Captain America. “I was like, oh, that’s right, it’s his point of view.”

Captain America: Civil War mixes things up a bit, putting Iron Man and Captain America against each other, versus the two working together as fellow Avengers. It sees Downey Jr. putting a twist on Iron Man, in that his character is now an antagonist in the film.

Of the role reversal, Downey Jr. explained it was no problem for him. “It didn’t bother me at all,” he told EW. “I’ve always thought of it in some ways that Tony is the antagonist to himself in his own story, so this isn’t a problem. This guy understands problems ‘cause he is a problem. And he tends to create problems.”

“I’m not having to patter around what I think the worldview is,” he added. “I wholeheartedly agree with what he does in this. Which is, by the way, more than I could say for some of the other movies.”
