Blake Shelton Files $1M Lawsuit Against Tabloid For Rehab Story

Grammy-nominated singer, Blake Shelton, has sued tabloid magazine In Touch Weekly on Monday over claims of defamation. The magazine had allegedly written a cover story on Shelton, claiming heavy drinking contributed to his divorce from Miranda Lambert, 31, and that he was headed to rehab as a consequence.

The lawsuit was filed against Bauer Publishing Co. — publisher of In Touch — in the Los Angeles County Superior Court and seeks over $1 million in damages. It contests that the tabloid has repeatedly published false rumors and information regarding Shelton’s breakup with Lambert.

The lawsuit also points out Shelton’s busy work schedule, citing his stint as a judge on NBC’s The Voice and his upcoming greatest hits album as what has kept him preoccupied.

The alleged In Touch story was published in late September and stated Shelton, 39, was drinking heavily, enough to warrant rehabilitation. It said that his actions played a role in his divorce. Prior to this, the tabloid also released a story claiming that Shelton had cheated on Lambert.

“Mr. Shelton is not in rehab and has no plans to go to rehab,” the lawsuit argued.

Furthermore, the cover story claimed that Shelton had reached “rock bottom” — a claim his lawsuit immediately refuted.

Shelton is additionally seeking an order to prevent In Touch from ever writing such allegations in the future.
