Aquantia, the leading developer of High Speed Ethernet connectivity solutions for cloud computing and large-scale data center deployments, announced today that George Zimmerman, a technology visionary and the founder of semiconductor developer Solarflare Communications, has been appointed to Aquantia’s Technical Advisory Board. The Technical Advisory board advises the company on issues of technology innovation and evolution.
Zimmerman is a longtime expert in wireline communications and has served as a defining force in the development of 10GBASE-T technology. He led the initial formation of the IEEE 10GBASE-T Study Group and was a significant contributor throughout the 802.3an standards process.
“Dr. Zimmerman has an extensive range of technical experience and insight into copper technologies,” said Kamal Dalmia, vice president of sales and marketing for Aquantia. “We are thrilled to have someone with his credentials continue to lend his expert guidance to the development of the BASE-T ecosystem.”
Prior to founding Solarflare, Zimmerman was chief scientist and vice president of strategic planning for PairGain Technologies, where he drove technology development and standardization for DSL technology. He previously helped drive technology innovation at both the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and NASA. Zimmerman holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Caltech and an undergraduate degree from Stanford University.
“Having led the successful completion of the IEEE Standard for 10GBASE-T and having helped to build the industry ecosystem necessary for 10GBASE-T, I look forward to participating in the ongoing development of BASE-T technologies and Aquantia,” Zimmerman said.
Aquantia delivers the world’s most mature, lowest power and smallest footprint 40nm 10GBASE-T PHY in production, for high-density switches, and the world’s only 10GBASE-T solution for LAN-on-Motherboard (LOM) servers. As Jag Bolaria, senior analyst at The Linley Group, recently stated, Aquantia has quickly established itself as the leader in 10GBASE-T semiconductors within this growing market segment, culminating in the company’s January 2013 milestone of shipping a cumulative 1 million 10GBASE-T ports.
