Apple Watch Receives New Update Following iOS 9.1

Following the release of their new iOS 9.1 update, Apple gives their audience even more to be excited about with an update for the Apple Watch: WatchOS 2.0.1.

With WatchOS 2.0.1, users can enjoy better battery performance, app syncing between the Apple Watch and a paired iPhone, and a resolved issue regarding stalled software updates. This new update comes shortly after its previous update released back in September.

Apple Watch’s previous update, Watch OS 2, was jam-packed with tweaks and features, but it came at a hefty download of 515MB. It reportedly took several hours to download and install.

While its number of improvements may not compare to the roster provided by iOS 9.1, WatchOS 2.0.1 — a 30MB download —  still boasts other substantial tweaks, including:

  • Addresses an issue that could prevent location information from being properly updated
  • Fixes an issue that could cause Digital Touch to send from an email address instead of a phone number
  • Addresses an issue that could cause instability when using a Live Photo as a watch face
  • Resolves an issue that allows the sensors to stay on indefinitely when using Siri to measure heart rate

Meanwhile, iOS 9.1 provides an improvement on Live Photos, Apple’s camera tool for creating GIF-esque animated images from photos. With tweaked motion sensing capabilities, it is now capable of detecting when a user raises or lowers their phone, automatically allowing Live Photos to halt the recording of such movements.

To update your Apple Watch, navigate to General, then choose Software Update.

The Apple Watch was released earlier this year. It incorporates fitness tracking and health-oriented capabilities, as well as integration with iOS and other Apple devices and services. It relies on a wirelessly connected iPhone (5 or higher) to perform many of its default actions, such as taking calls and texting.
