Apple Releases List of Top Free and Paid App Downloads in 2013

Apple Releases List of Top Free and Paid AppAs the year closes, you could be interested to know the best and most popular apps that were downloaded for free and for a premium amount through the App Store. This is why it is very timely for the giant technology firm to release its list of most popular apps throughout the year.

Dubbed as the Best of 2013, the list compiles the most downloaded content in the company’s popular App Store. This includes mobile applications, TV shows, music, books, movies, and podcasts. Apple did not provide specific numbers of downloads but the list indicate which apps are the most popular.

Free and paid game apps

Unsurprisingly, Candy Crush Saga tops the list of free apps that were downloaded in 2013. That could mainly be because it is a ‘freemium’ mobile game. This means that the app itself could be downloaded for free. But the game earns revenue though in-app purchases by its players. The app recently commemorated its first year anniversary with over 500 million downloads through Facebook and other mobile devices.

There is also listing for paid apps in App Store. This list was topped by Mojang’s Minecraft: Pocket Edition game. It managed to rule the paid apps category to earn the No. 1 spot among users of iPhones and iPads. The game could be downloaded with a price tag of $6.99. It has so far sold over 30 million copies across various platforms: PCs, consoles, and mobile devices.

Tops of other apps

Logically, the App Store is not all about just fun and games. There are many other apps that are available through it. Interestingly, there are interactive animations, educational tools, and other attention-grabbing apps that are up there.

For the iPhone, Duolingo topped the free listing. It is a language education app that could be downloaded and used for free. On the paid end, Ridiculous Fishing topped the game. The $3 app is all about fishing with guns, toasters, and chainsaws. For the iPad, the Editors’ Choices were the $4 BADLAND and the $10 Disney Animated.

In a blog post, Disney Interactive shouted its gratitude that its Disney Animated was named as the Best iPad App for 2013. It noted that this is its first time to be awarded such recognition. The paid app was picked from over 100,000 iOS apps that were launched on App Store this year.
