Apple Introduces Over 150 New Emojis In iOS 9.1 Update

The iOS 9.1 update is now available for users of an iPhone, iPad, or iTouch. Of the several improvements the update brings forth, some are more notable by the public than others, like the new roster of emojis.

Previously, Apple released iTunes 12.3.1, which they claimed had included stability and performance improvements.

Both the iOS 9.1 and the newly released OS X 10.11.1 include new emojis — over 150 of them — such as a taco, burrito, cheese, unicorn, ice hockey, and even a middle finger, should the need arise to virtually flip someone off.

One detail to take note of is when a user with an updated emoji selection messages someone utilizing an older iPhone: if a user sends a new emoji to a friend with an older iPhone, the emoji will appear as an alien instead.

Another highlighted tweak involves Live Photos on the iPhone 6s, where its motion sensing capabilities allow the device to identify when a user raises or lowers their phone, automatically allowing Live Photos to not record such movements.

Additionally, the iOS 9.1 has improved the shift key on the iOS9.1 keyboard, providing users with better ease when text is uppercase or in caps lock. The update also features new wallpapers and provides compatibility for the upcoming fourth-generation Apple TV and iPad Pro.

More improvements and features included in the update are:

  • Improved stability including CarPlay, Music, Photos, Safari, and Search
  • Fixes an issue that could cause Calendar to become unresponsive in Month view
  • Fixes an issue that prevented Game Center from launching for some users
  • Resolves an issue that zoomed the content of some apps
  • Resolves an issue that could cause an incorrect unread mail count for POP mail accounts
  • Fixes an issue that caused some messages to not appear in Mail search results
  • Resolves an issue that left a gray bar in the body of an Audio Message
  • Fixes an issue that caused activation errors on some carriers

Other tweaks include an improved performance while in Multitasking UI, a resolved issue that prevented users from removing recent contacts from new mail or messages, and a solution to a previously aggravating issue that prevented some apps from updating from the App Store.

To acquire this update on your mobile device, simply go to Settings, General, then choose Software Update and allow the installation to download. The update may not be immediately available to everyone as it comes in gradually in different parts of the world.
