Android 5.0 Lollipop: Top 5 features

Android 5.0 Lollipop: Top 5 featuresThe much awaited Android 5.0 Lollipop version was officially unveiled by Google on Wednesday and as promised the new OS comes with a number of interesting features and visual upgrades taking the overall user experience to the next level.

While Google had announced some of the features of the device back at Google I/O in June, after October 15announcement, we know exactly what to expect from the new version. So, let’s take a look at the 5 interesting features of Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Android Material Design

Android 5.0 Lollipop is probably Google’s biggest Android update till now. The visuals have changed completely replacing the existing design with a flatter and a more fluidic interface. The UI comes with new transition animations and colors along with revamped navigation and status bars. Quick settings too come with new options like flashlight, cast screen controls etc. Clearly, the new UI brings a lot of features to the Android platform making the OS better and faster than before. This is what Google had to say about its new Android version,

“A bold, colorful, and responsive UI design for consistent, intuitive experiences across all your devices. Responsive, natural motion, realistic lighting and shadows, and familiar visual elements make it easier to navigate your device. Vivid new colors, typography, and edge-to-edge imagery help to focus your attention.”

Better Notification Options

In the past few Android versions, the notifications options remained more or less the same. But this changes in the new OS as you get a lot more options to choose when dealing with the notifications on your phone.

First of all, now you can view and respond to the notifications even when you are on your lock screen. And if you are inside an app, the notifications pop up like a floating box, giving you the option to view it or to dismiss it without leaving the current app.

You also get a ‘Priority Mode’ for managing your notifications. In this mode, only notifications from certain people or apps will be shown. You can activate it using the volume buttons or you can schedule it to turn on or off.

Improved Battery Life

The new OS is more efficient than the previous versions; therefore you will get much better battery life on your Android 5.0 device. Further, there’s even a battery saving mode which will squeeze up to 90 minutes of battery life when you are running low on juice and you do not have a power outlet nearby.

The OS will also let you know the time remaining till next charge when unplugged as well as the time to full charge when you are charging the device.

New Security Features

Android 5.0 Lollipop allows you to create multiple user accounts even on your smartphone. There’s a special guest mode which enables your friends to browse through your selected apps. But they won’t have access to your personal files. You can even pin a screen, which means your friends won’t be able to move past the screen into other apps.

Google has also incorporated SELinux security module on all apps for better protection against malware. You even get ‘Factory Reset protection’, which allows users to wipe their data at will.

Compatible with Multiple Devices

Android 5.0 is more flexible than previous versions and will support devices will different screen sizes. Google has basically customized the OS according to your needs, so it will work on smartwatches, TVs, cars etc. apart from traditional devices.

There are many other great features that’s included in the new Lollipop OS but we would like to get hands on with the version for more details on those features.
