American Music Awards: Ariana Grande’s Secret To Beating Taylor Swift

Pop star Ariana Grande recently bagged the Best Female Pop/Rock Artist Award at the American Music Awards on Sunday at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, beating out the likes of Meghan Trainor and Taylor Swift.

Claiming her award onstage, 22-year-old Grande broke out in tears as she honored her beloved nonna (grandmother) Marjorie, dedicating the win to her.

“Thank you to my family who’s here tonight,” she said, award in hand. “I think I owe a lot of this to my nonna, who made sure to remind me that she voted.”

Impersonating her grandmother with an endearing touch, she added, “She goes, ‘Ariana, I went on the computer. I voted, so I think you’ll win.’”

Besides her nonna, Grande was also in the company of her brother, Frankie, who was one of the hosts for the American Music Awards pre-show. Another highlight of the night was Grande’s first live performance of her new track, Focus.

Grande emulated old Hollywood vibes as she appeared onstage with her hair down, sporting a nude blazer with a matching bedazzled gown, topping things off with some white gloves before disappearing behind the red curtains and revealing a more daring version of her ensemble, showing off her shapely legs as she belted it out to her song.

Following her win, Grande took to Instagram to express her thanks to her fans, as well as show off even more snippets of her darling nonna, who had apparently taken the online world by storm, becoming an instant hit with netizens and being the talk of the Internet town.

“How do you feel, nonna?” asked Grande of her grandmother’s newfound fame and apparent headline status.

“I feel wonderful,” replied Marjorie with demure nonchalance whilst everyone else in the car attempted to stifle their giggles. “I didn’t know I was that good.”

Ariana Grande might have taken home an award, but it seems like nonna Marjorie is the one who walks away with the American Music Awards crown. What do you think?
