Today marks eight months since Zayn Malik left famed boy band One Direction, and though time has passed, his fans are just as fiercely loyal to him now as they were when he was still a member of the band. Taking to Twitter with the hashtag, #8MonthsWithoutZayn, they are using today to pay tribute to Zayn and the band that now seems incomplete to them.

Despite the heartbreak that it caused fans of One Direction worldwide when Zayn Malik left on March 25th, the band itself has gone on to continue doing very well without him.

On July 1st, One Direction released their first new single since Zayn left the band, titled “Drag Me Down.” Rolling Stone rates the track as One Direction’s second best song of all time, which is pretty impressive for a band that just lost one of its members.

The single went on to win the BBC Radio 1 Teen Award for Best British Single this year, and One Direction also won their award for Best British Group. They’ve won both of these awards in previous years; however, this proves that Zayn had nothing to do with their success.

The band followed up their new hit song “Drag Me Down” with the album “Made In A.M.” which was also a phenomenal success, and the song “What A Feeling” from that new album now sits on Rolling Stone’s list as the number one song that the band has ever released.

Released just a couple of weeks ago, the new album’s success proved that even after #8MonthsWithoutZayn, the band is doing just fine, and success continues to surround them.

Then, just a few days ago, One Direction put on an amazing performance of “Perfect” at the American Music Award(AMA) show, and they also walked away with the award for Artist of the Year. It was a pretty impressive accomplishment, especially when you consider that their competition included Maroon 5 and Ed Sheeran.

For those who have been One Direction fans since the beginning, when they got their start on X Factor, it may never be the same after #8MonthsWithoutZayn. But for those whose tastes have matured along with the band, that’s probably a good thing.
