4 million iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus pre-orders made in the first 24 hours

4 million iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus pre-orders made in the first 24 hoursApple finally announced two new large screen iPhones in the market on September 9th and it’s no surprise that people went crazy about these new devices. Unlike what earlier rumors said, both the iPhones went up for pre-order on September 12th and they will start shipping from September 19.

The two new Apple devices, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are much bigger than earlier generations and people have been looking forward to these large screen devices for quite some time. Earlier iPhones were only 4 inch long, which was way smaller than other flagships that came with a 5 inch screen or more.

While it took time for the company to adopt a larger screen for their devices, the wait seemed to have generated a lot of excitement among fans. So, it’s not at all surprising that the new iPhone 6 models broke records on its first pre-order day.

Today, the Cupertino giant revealed that more than 4 million pre-orders were made in the first 24 hours after the product page went live on its website. The pre-orders kicked off early Friday morning and soon the larger 5.5 inch model was sold out.

While we already knew that the numbers were going to be huge (Apple’s website was initially having trouble due to the amount of traffic), 4 million is still a very large figure. That’s twice the amount of  pre-orders that iPhone 5 received two years back and even much bigger than the estimated 2.2 million figure for the iPhone 5S and 5C.

Apple was naturally not prepared for such massive amount of pre-orders (we are NOT surprised) and the shipping dates have fallen back. At present, if you order the in demand iPhone 6 Plus, it won’t ship until 3-4 weeks while the smaller iPhone 6 model will ship only in the next 7-10 days.

“Demand for the new iPhones exceeds the initial pre-order supply,” Apple said earlier today, “and while a significant amount will be delivered to customers beginning on Friday and throughout September, many iPhone pre-orders are scheduled to be delivered in October.”

However, if you can’t wait to get your hands on the new iPhone, you can always go to an Apple store to buy one. Apple reserved some stock for its brick and mortar stores and they start selling from this Friday.

However, like every year, there’s going to be a huge line at these stores and it’s been said that the queues have already started forming.
