Apple has always tried to innovative the iPhone at a rate that suits progress, making sure new innovation is not pushed too quickly to ruin or degrade the user experience on the device. It is why we still see the four-inch 1136 x 640 display, instead of a gorgeous five-inch 1080p display.
Cupertino has stuck to the two year model when it comes to storage, saying they will double the storage every two years for users. The iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 both have 16GB, 32GB and 64GB of storage and we expect the new iPhone 5S to be the first to have 128GB of storage onboard.
With the iPad 4 coming with a 128GB storage option, we see no reason why Apple cannot add the extra 64GB into the iPhone 5S. This would obviously be for power users and probably cost $399 on contract, making it out of most consumers’ budget.
German retail chain Media Markt has recently had an inventory leak showing an unannounced iPhone product with 128GB of storage. The model number is XXXXXXXX, making it impossible to cross-reference it with other leaks.
The move to add 128GB of storage would be one of great value to some users, especially ones that want to carry a full media station on their device, with movies and a pocket full of apps. As cloud storage becomes more widely available, we may see even more storage available on the system.
September 10 is the date Apple is set to reveal the iPhone 5S and iOS7. With the iPhone 5S, we could see the 128GB model and a new golden color. Rumors floating around are questionable, but we have had a good few photo leaks on the iPhone 5S gold edition and the 128GB model seems to fit the two year rule for Apple just right.
