Body of 9-Week-Old Infant Allegedly Found Dead; Parents Under Custody

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office has recovered the body of an infant believed to be that of Chance Walsh, found dead in North Port, Florida.

Chance

Chance, who was only 9 weeks old, was first reported to be missing a month ago after his grandmother, Sally Susino, informed authorities that she hadn’t seen her grandson in almost a month. She claimed that the baby’s parents, Kristen Bury, 32, and Joseph Walsh, 36, had told contradictory stories to relatives regarding Chance’s sudden absence.

According to reports, Susino said she came forward after talking to Bury’s stepmother, Kimberly Millwater.

Millwater said that the couple allegedly told her Chance had died in a car crash. She claimed Bury told her, “Kim, I love that baby. I can’t take care of him.”

Chance Walsh

She added that Bury further said she “despised Chance whenever she would look at him because he wasn’t Duane.”

Bury gave birth to Duane Jacob Walsh on March 13, 2014, only for paramedics to find him dead 22 days later. Medical examiners found out that Duane died of a kidney infection that resulted from a botched circumcision.

Investigations of the couple’s home have showed bloodstains and evidence of blood splatter on the walls. According to an arrest report, cadaver dogs also indicated the presence of human remains.

Chance parents

Chance’s parents — who have a history of drug use, according to police — are currently being held in South Carolina. They are reported to be uncooperative with authorities and have allegedly showed no interest in the whereabouts of their son.

In a press conference held last Thursday, Susino publicly pleaded with Bury and Walsh for their cooperation with the investigation, saying, “We are hoping Kristen and Joseph, who were apprehended by the FBI and are in custody, will do what’s right and tell us where Chance is.”

“We just want to bring him home, where he’s loved,” she added. “We ask for everyone for your continued prayers.”
