5 Romantic Destinations In The Philippines For Every Type Of Traveler!
Valentine’s Day is almost here, and it’s time to start making plans. For those looking to do something more interesting than the usual dinner-and-a-movie date, why not consider making the holiday more memorable by taking a vacation with your sweetheart?
February 14th falls on a Sunday this year, so it’s the perfect chance to get out of town for the special occasion! There are plenty of beautiful, hidden locations within the Philippines that would be perfect for couples looking for a romantic, tropical getaway. If you’re having a hard time choosing where to go, here are some romantic destinations for every type of traveler to spend their Valentine Day at!
1. The adrenaline junkies
If you and your sweetheart are the kind of couple that seek out thrilling adventures together, consider Montaneza Falls in Malabuyoc, Cebu as your romantic getaway destination! One of the highlights of this gorgeous Philippine destination is the canyoning activities available.
There are five different sets of waterfalls within the Montaneza Falls for you to explore, rappelling down and climbing through the wet rocks. One of the descents is a full 30 meters, which will be as challenging as it is enjoyable!
You’ll get wet, you’ll get sweaty, and you’ll make some incredible memories that you will never forget. Make sure to book a tour early as most guides require advance registration and may require a group of three or more – so get your friends and double date this Valentine’s Day!
2. The pampered pair
Not everyone is up to something as physical as rappelling down a waterfall; some would much rather book a spa date and enjoy some pampering – and there is nothing wrong with that! Sometimes, we all need a vacation that’s just stress-free and relaxing, so consider Tagaytay as your Valentine’s Day destination.
Tagaytay is known for their excellent spas and resorts, so there are plenty of options depending on what you want to get out of the experience! From the Nurture Wellness Village, which features spa facilities and “glamping,” to the Qiwellness Living Chinese tea and bathhouse, where you can enjoy a couple’s massage and a candlelight dinner, there are endless places to choose from.
In addition to all the spas, most resorts come with a spectacular view of Taal Lake and Volcano, which is sure to take your breath away – if the cold air hasn’t already done so!
3. The beach bums
There are so many romantic destinations in the Philippines that offer great beaches for a couple to choose from, but many of them get so busy and loud – especially on a holiday. If you and your sweetheart are looking for a relaxing beach destination to spend your Valentine’s Day at, head to Tikling Beach in Sorsogon.
In a contrast to the popular white sand beaches touted by Boracay, Tikling Beach offers some gorgeous pink sand composed of crushed corals. It’s still a relatively unknown destination, so you won’t have to fight off the crowds, but be prepared to rough it a little. There are no 5-star accommodations here, and it’s probably in your best interest to plan ahead and bring your own food.
Despite the ruggedness, you and your love will be entranced by the beach’s beauty, and it easily be able to top all of your friends’ bragging about trips to the beaches that everyone has already heard of.
4. The budget backpackers
Not everyone has the money to take a flight to romantic destinations on another island or book a room at a 5-star resort, and that’s okay! If you and your sweetheart are in saving mode right now as you prepare for marriage, buying a house, or kids, there’s still plenty of places to go that will make your Valentine’s Day memorable, even if you’re on a budget – like Mt. Makiling, for one!
Money will not be an issue if you go here, as long as you’re prepared to rough it. Mt. Makiling is located in Laguna and is just a bus ride from Manila, with minimal entrance fees when you arrive. The mountain features several split-off trails, so if you’re not in shape to hike all the way to the peak, no worries!
As popular as the summit itself are Mt. Makiling’s hot springs and flat-rock river bed, both of which would make a great location for a picnic lunch. You can easily make it a day-trip if you want to, or find some cheap accommodations in Laguna to rest before heading back to the city.
5. The ultimate romantics
If you and your sweetheart are looking for something that combines most of the above elements – a beach destination with both pampering and thrill-seeking opportunities, for example – then Palawan is the place for you.
For a unique, romantic experience, take a tour of Puerto Princesa’s underground river. You and your sweetheart will be taken on a paddle-boat through the longest underground river in the world, with only the boatman’s light to guide your way. Forget the “tunnel of love” at amusement parks, this is the real deal right here. Follow up the underground river ride with the Iwahig firefly tour after dark and enjoy the romantic sight of fireflies as they dance amongst the trees.
For the more adventurous, there are plenty of diving spots throughout Palawan featuring gorgeous corals, WWII shipwrecks, and you may even spot some turtles, hammerhead sharks, manta rays, or barracudas if you are lucky. End your adventure at one of the many spa resorts on the island, and you’ll have the ultimate romantic experience – perfect if you have a proposal in mind, too, as this is easily one of the most romantic destinations in the Philippines!
